I will present the framework that we have been using in our group for exploring theories on grammar emergence using a cultural evolution perspective. We have been using agent-based simulations, both to discover the learning and tutoring strategies used by individuals and the general cultural dynamics that arises when these strategies are adopted. Two other contributions by Emilia Garcia Casademont (on emergence of phrase structure) and Katrien Beuls (on emergence of marker systems) show concretely how this framework is used to investigate specific domains of grammar.
